God’s Plan – Wait for It

God’s Plan

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. — Romans 8:28

Great, God has a plan. But what in the world is that plan?! God does have a plan for your individual life. Remember, He knows everything — all the facts, and all the possibilities. But it can be hard to discern God’s plan for our lives because there isn’t a script in the Bible for every move we’re supposed to make. There isn’t a step-by-step guide to who you should be friends with, which college or career you should pursue, where you should live, who to marry, if you will have children. Wouldn’t it simplify things if there were?

But the Bible does tell us many of God’s big-picture plans, thankfully. God’s ultimate plan is to save us and to make us more like Jesus. When we keep this in view, those smaller, daily decisions about our lives come into clearer focus. Does this choice help me live and love like Jesus? Or does it take me in the opposite direction? When we move forward like this, one step at a time, honoring God with each decision, His plan for our life unfolds.

Wait for It

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. — Psalm 27:14

Have you ever heard that old joke that you should pray for patience, or else God will give you opportunities to practice it? Most of us don’t find waiting easy. When we have a craving for something delicious, we want it now, not after dinner. (Ice cream for breakfast? Sure, why not!) When we have a fun event on the horizon, we want the horizon to be here, already. When we have a dream or goal, we want it realized immediately. Today. Yesterday, even. Let’s get this show on the road! What are we waiting for?!

But given how much Scripture talks about waiting, specifically waiting on the Lord, we can guess patience is listed as fruit of the Spirit for a reason. God is never in a rush. This God who is always the same says, “Wait on Me. See what I have for you in My time.” And here’s a secret:

God’s plan in God’s time is always even better than ice cream for breakfast. God’s not in a rush, so why are we?
