The Magnolia Story

He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken. - Psalm 62:2

This verse is short but oh my does it have so much power. There is a key word that is spoken here that is one to hold on to, the word “alone.” He alone is our rock and salvation — not our family, not our job, not our power or ranking, but God alone.  When I read this passage, the tight grip I have on the cares of life begins to loosen. Even death and life don’t hold the weight they once did as I let this verse soak into my heart and mind.

No matter what happens, I will be okay.

As a mother, wife and businesswoman, I can tend to allow fear to creep in at times. I feel like if I mess up or don’t work hard enough, the wheels could fall off. I have a firm grip on everything I love the most in fear of losing something. This, in turn, starts a negative cycle that affects the ones closest to me.

But God is good, and His promises are true.

When I speak these words over and over, my soul finds peace and there is rest, and I can let go and trust Him.

Today, ask God to reveal areas in your life that have been a false foundation and salvation for your life. Write this verse down and when fear and lies creep in, speak the truth over your life and situation and let the peace of God set your soul free.

By renovating homes in Waco, Texas, and changing lives in such a winsome and engaging way, Chip and Joanna have become more than just the stars of HGTV's Fixer Upper, they have become America’s new best friends.

The Magnolia Story is the first book from Chip and Joanna, giving readers the inside scoop on how they built a brand and a business while raising four kids and maintaining their deeply rooted faith. Fans will finally get to join the Gaines behind the scenes and discover details and stories you would never know just from watching the show. In this book, you'll discover...

  • The time Chip ran to the grocery store and forgot to take their new, sleeping baby
  • Joanna’s agonizing decision to close her dream business to focus on raising their children
  • Harrowing stories of the financial ups and downs as an entrepreneurial couple
  • The significance of the word magnolia and why it permeates everything they do
And yet there is still one lingering question for fans of the show: Is Chip really that funny? “Oh yeah,” says Joanna. “He was, and still is, my first fixer upper.”

A message from Joanna Gaines...

I knew when I married Chip in 2003 that our life would be an adventure, but through all of the ups and downs I would never have imagined we’d land here. What I do know is that I couldn’t have asked for a better partner to share it with.

In our debut book, The Magnolia Story, we share how Chip managed to grab my attention from the very start, about our first flip house collaborations together, our first real successes, and even the big building project that almost cost us everything.

The story details the driving factors that led us to build a multi-faceted, recognized brand, all while raising a family and a farm. And how through it all the relationship Chip and I share has remained the constant and the theme of our past twelve years together.

Getting to tell this story together was like uncovering and reliving half-a-lifetime’s worth of happy memories, failures, and adventures. I can’t wait to share it with you and hope you enjoy the story, our story, as much as we are enjoying the privilege and opportunity to share it with you.
